Commissioning a Dog Portrait
Your Pet Photos
Photos are a really important part of the commissioning process. The photos you choose to send to us must capture your dogs personality and character well. We usually work from one main photo for the pose, so if for example you would like your dog laying down, with its tongue out looking relaxed then we really need a photo of your dog in that position. If you are taking new photos of your dog for this project try to choose a relatively bright day and take photos in the garden so as to avoid the use of flash.
Once you have your photos, they can be emailed to us or you can send them to us on cd. Please dont reduce thier size, we need to see as much detail as possible., . If you have prints you can either scan and email them them or send us copies through th regular mail, please contact us for our studio address.
The Pet Art Composite
Once your photos arrive, Nick and I will take a good look through them, working out the best composition for your portrait, keeping in mind any requirements you have. We like clients to have input into their portrait, often they can visualise what they want, so creating a composite really helps us and the clients to make sure we are both thinking along the same lines.
The example below is of a labrador, the client took photos of her dog indoors, however wanted her to be outside in a countryside scene. We first cut the dog from the background, found a suitable background, placed the dog onto the background and emailed the composite to the client. Once the composite is okayed, we use it for the basis of the painting, the portrait is completed using traditional techniques. You can see the final portrait below right, which was completed in pastels. |
